Jump my friend.... follow your heart. If you fall on your face then you just try again. There is nothing to be scared of in the end. Because in the end the American Dream never really matters... following your heart and the force of your passions (which are instilled in us for a reason) will be the only satisfaction and will have the only TRUE impact.
Here's a cheesy cliche but one that has helped me in the past....
"God steers moving vehicles"
Meaning if you aren't moving, the steering is pointless. Give it some gas first and then the steering will take effect ;)

"It speaks so well to the weeks when I forget to pencil God into my life and try to trudge along with my life and think that everything can go on the way it always has: My spiritual life is dying"

And that's when I say, "where's God in all of this, why does this have to be so hard?." As if I had been close to God all along, only to learn that all the distance was in actuality imposed by me.
I almost just wrote that spirituality (as life) is a daily struggle, which sounds awful. It is a daily battle though, I do believe that.
We do not wage war against flesh and blood...
Sounds like a good book!

Evan,
can I tell you I get so excited when you blog.... there is something about the way you write and the fact that it ALWAYS hits home that makes me thirsty for your wonderful words of wisdom. Thank you for the constant reminders. :)

Yup, needed to hear this point made again. Will probably need to hear it daily for a long time while it continues to set in. I'm realizing that trust and hearing from God can only be obtained by, well, telling ourselves to essentially "shut up" (At least in my case). Our own thoughts and ideals can easily drown out God's voice and the irony in it all is His plan FAR exceeds whatever we could ever come up with. We could miss the greatest things in life by taking charge of life ourselves (which is what the world places all of its value in, also ironic now that I think about it). I don't think any of us will ever "arrive" or figure out Gods heart, not even a fraction, but we get to catch glimpses. The Joy is in the journey, and the best part is we get to be a part of it.

Umm, so I didn't read this until just now and I think its fairly awesome that I just learned the same things about God, using analogies to boot! I'll leave the verse my friend just brought up, pretty perfect for the topic in my opinion.
Isaiah 43:1-2
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."

And....I'm crying. I have read this story more than once over the years and it still gets me every time. Thanks for the long post, it was perfect for the coffee shop/sitting in a comfy chair atmosphere I am in right now.
